And Work Continues…
Sometimes I can’t get something started however hard I try. Guitar, piano, drums - none of them help to get anything off the ground and I end up without anything to show for the attempt. Sometimes.
Other times, like these late Spring days, every time I sit down, I’ve got an idea worth elaborating on. It’s like I’ve taken fertility drugs and I’m painlessly delivering quintuplets. Of course, I won’t know whether or not they’re ugly for some time, but it’s satisfying just to get them out there. Ideas born of such serendipity often turn out to sound several notches less ‘listenable’ the next time I hear them.
Tonight I began something with the simplest of rhythms and the piano. Uncharacteristically, the new batch of songs haven’t got much piano to them, so I figured I’d see about centering this one around it. Also, having an electric bass in the studio here helps a lot as I have NEVER liked synth basses and (any negative feelings I might have about any of our older recordings are usually directed at such sounds) it’s nice not to have to rely on them for these demos.
As ever, NI’s Guitar Rig has been so helpful in approximating tones for the noisy stuff, though I do look forward to making a lot of racket recording the real thing a bit down the line…
